I feel I’m only crawling

But I heard her say: “Slow down.”

I want to rush as fast as I can.

I want to catch my past again.

I want to reach the very top

   Before I must slow down.

I want to see the other side

Where people lived before they died.

I want to dance – I want to sing –

Be her puppet on a string.

Make tomorrow today’s dream

   Before I must slow down.

I’m only moving inch by inch,

Wake me up. Give me a pinch.

I have miles to go before I’m there,

A few years left to show I care.

Don’t offer me a rocking chair –

   I’m not slowing down!
