Sweet Dreams

I find contentment in the
midnight hours –
Daily duties have been met and
are complete.
In solitudes with only thoughts to
guide me.
I fall asleep – dream another dream
so sweet.
For it is here, my love, where I can
touch you.
And at last, within my dreams, we
finally meet.

I cannot prevent the morning sun from
waking me –
I want midnight dreams to rest with me
and stay.
I want to feel the passion of
your kiss –
I want to hold you as the night becomes
the day.
But when I do awake, I find to
my delight –
That sweet dreams linger and will not
go away.

Each midnight – when I lie awaiting sleep
without you by my side – I’m incomplete.
I close my eyes, then softly speak your name
and feel your presence resting on my sheet.
You are here, my love, where I can touch you
once more, within my dreams,
where we can meet.
